About the Program
F.I.T. stands for “Families in Transition.”
The Families in Transition (FIT) program is Springdale’s district program to assist students and their families in temporary or transitional housing situations. This program was born from the McKinney-Vento Act, which provides youth experiencing homelessness with the support and resources they need to access a stable, high-quality education, regardless of their housing situation, by addressing barriers to enrollment, transportation, and school stability.
According to the McKinney-Vento Act, children and youth are considered homeless if they lack a fixed, regular, adequate nighttime residence:
- Any student who is sharing the housing with others due to economic hardship, job loss, eviction/foreclosure or any similar circumstances (doubled up)
- Any student who is living in cars, trailer parks, campgrounds, public spaces, abandoned buildings or substandard housing
- Any student who is living in hotels or motels
- Any student who is living in an emergency or transitional shelter, a student who has been abandoned in a hospital
- Any student who is an unaccompanied youth (not in the physical custody of a parent or guardian) in any of the above mentioned circumstances
- Migratory children who are living in any of the above mentioned circumstances
Each year, volunteers and donors link arms to meet real needs, serve local families, and share the message of God’s love through giving.

Every Family Sponsored. Thank You!
This season, because of your generosity, every single family in our FIT Christmas program has been sponsored.
Your kindness, compassion, and willingness to step forward have made a real difference in the lives of students and families across our community. We are deeply grateful.
All needs have been fulfilled, but feel free to re-visit should a new family be identified.
If additional families are brought to our attention in the coming days, we will reopen sponsorship opportunities here.
Thank you for helping us bring hope, joy, and dignity to our families this Christmas!
